After spending the first decade of her career working with prestigious international skincare brands as a facialist and brand educator, she decided to accumulate  all her accolades and skin specific learnings to create The Skin Nerd ltd, the core philosophy is to give straight talking, down to earth advice and education to all.

Dr Gemma Newman has worked in medicine for 15 years and is the Senior Partner at a family medical practice where she has worked for 11 years. She studied at the University of Wales College of Medicine and has worked in many specialities as a doctor including elderly care, endocrinology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, general surgery, urology, vascular surgery, rehabilitation medicine and General Practice. She gained additional qualifications in gynaecology and family planning. She is a graduate of the AFMCP course, and is a member of BSLM.

She has a specialist interest in plant based nutrition and lifestyle medicine, and is an advisory board member of Plant Based Health Professionals UK. She has contributed content on the topic of Diabetes for the Winchester University Plant Based Nutrition Course and on the topic of Mental Health and Nutrition for The Diploma of Culinary Medicine by The Medicinal Chef. She gives nutrition and lifestyle advice to her patients, who have gained tremendous results using the power of their plate.

As a broadcaster and writer she has been featured on ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky News Sunrise. She has contributed to articles for magazines including Glamour, Zest and Health magazine.

Her family lead a fully plant based lifestyle, following the extensive research she had done of the scientific literature on the health benefits associated with whole-food plant based nutrition. She is regularly invited to teach other doctors and the general public via training programmes, podcasts and conferences about the benefits of plant-based nutrition.

You have an additional 4 weeks access to the course after it officially finishes, so that's 8 weeks access to the course content in total.

You will be able to find almost all the ingredients on this course in your local supermarket or health food shop.

Like everybody aiming for optimal digestive and overall health, those eating a plant-based diet do need to ensure that they are getting a few key nutrients and may even need to take some supplements

To ensure that you get the maximum benefit from your healthy diet, we do recommend that you supplemental vitamin B12 and vitamin D.You may choose to purchase individual supplements, but in our opinion, the easiest way to achieve this by far is by taking a supplement called “VEG-1”. VEG-1 is a single daily pill which contains the recommended doses of vitamin b12, vitamin D, iodine and other important nutrients. It is available with global delivery from

Gluten containing foods present on The Happy Skin Course can be replaced with gluten-free options or omitted completely.

We generally advise anyone going to the effort of doing our courses, tries to eliminate alcohol but it's not the be all and end all. If alcohol makes you eat more veg then the odd glass of Rioja is fine by us!

If you do drink alcohol during the 4 weeks, make sure to note it in your skin diary, so you can see if/how it affects your skin.

Caffeine is great for sharpening your focus and helping you with certain daily tasks that might need your sustained concentration. So, moderate caffeine intake is absolutely fine.

Do keep in mind that excess caffeine can dehydrate the skin. Keep track of how much caffeine you are drinking in your skin diary and notice how it affects your skin.

We recommend you limit your caffeine intake on our courses to either 1-2 cups of coffee per day OR 2-3 cups of breakfast or green tea per day, changing all other teas to herbal tea or warm water. Use your favourite non-dairy milk as needed.

Yes, you can still do our courses. You will not be able to take part in the live Q&As and ask questions live but the Q&A recordings are uploaded to the site after they are finished, so you won’t miss anything!

We would recommend if you want the full experience, that you make a Facebook account just for the course. As this gives you an opportunity to interact with others on the course which we find can help you keep on track.

If you don’t have a Facebook account and don’t want to create one, simply email in your questions and we will answer them during the live Q&A.

The cooking, depending on what meal plan you choose and how many you are cooking for, can take anything from 3 hours for the whole week, or an hour or so every day. The course notes can be accessed at whatever time suits you and it is a self-led course, so you do not need to follow along live.

Yes, this it is fine. Our courses are self-led, once they begin, so you can access the course content at any point in time.

This means that you can do it when it suits you. You also have an additional 4/6 weeks of access to your chosen course after it ends, so you should have plenty of time to complete it.

No, you do not need to buy any skin care products. The skincare advice on the course can help you when making future skincare product choices

You are entitled to a full refund within one week of your payment, in accordance with Distance Selling regulations, provided that the course has not already started.
We cannot refund fees in respect of cancellation after this time but we can facilitate a transfer to the course at a different date. We cannot offer partial refunds to students who do not finish a course.
